May 2005: Requestec launch UK's first interactive 3G video services
In addition to launching the UK's first live 3G television
broadcasting service in conjunction with Your Destiny TV, Requestec have
also teamed up with At The Races to launch a ground-breaking 3G betting
service. Whilst the former allows viewers to watch live TV footage on
their 3G mobile phone via a 5-digit video short code, the At The Races
service enables callers to be diverted through to a call centre (William
Hill in this case) in order to place a bet whilst enjoying uninterrupted
live racing coverage streamed to their handset. Other services in development include video jukebox services that offer full video IVR functionality. Such services allow callers to be able to select video footage via familiar IVR inputs. "As ever, simplicity is the key and what could be simpler than pressing 1 to watch video 1, or pressing 2 to speak to operator 2?" says Benjamin Weekes, Head of Technology. "The beauty of video short codes is not only the ease of use associated with them, but also the fact that every 3G phone comes pre-configured for our services." With full 3G video conferencing and video chat just round the corner, we are now entering a new era in interactivity. 3, Vodafone and Orange all currently offer video
short codes. O2 and T-Mobile are due to launch their first video short codes later
this summer. |

Marek Zwiefka-Sibley, Head of Business Development,
said: "3G video IVR is as interactive as you can get without
actually speaking to someone in person. And it's not just about interactivity...
no longer will people miss a live televised event just because they're
not in front of their TV at the time. 3G brings people closer to the action
in every respect. Broadcasting, conferencing, video chat... all enabled
by 3G." |
