Requestec Launch 3G Video Short Codes

November 2004: Requestec announces launch of the UK's first 3G Video Short Codes in conjunction with mobile network, Hutchinson 3G.

Launched in November 2004, video shortcodes allow users to dial a 5-digit video short code in order to receive video streamed back to their 3G handset. Without the need to invoke WAP services or to download a specific video player to the handset (processes deemed to be a barrier to many users), video short codes are widely believed to herald the future of mobile video on demand. Whilst Hutchinson 3G are the first network to offer the service to their subscriber base, the UKs other main networks will soon be following suit, launching their first 3G handsets over the next several months.

Initially the service will yield single video clips, but within a short period of time users will be able to select specific clips by pressing different keys on their keypad in much the same way as users are currently diverted to various services via familiar audio IVR services. Without the need to download video footage prior to viewing, 3G video will be a responsive, simple to access service and provides another medium for content providers to distribute their multimedia content via a platform with a billing mechanism that's already built in.

Requestec would be happy to talk to interested parties about setting up 3G video services. Simply email or call us on 08707 565 797 to learn more.
